I am an MPH student (Biostats yay!) and am having to take the survey course on the history of American healthcare systems (less yay!) As part of our assignments, we do lots of video lectures. The image you provide from Stewart is perfect for one of the current videos I am working on - which will cover Inpatient acute care certification and regulation. Did you take that image yourself, and could I have permission to use it for a class project. It would be posted on a Youtube channel (where some of the other projects are also posted, you can see them there...)but would not be used in any way shape or form to generate any sort of revenue. Caritas and then Steward screeched "leakage" at all their medical staff as though it were bubonic plague, not loss of revenue and bullied or bought doctors to keep patients captive within the system unless they absolutely refused. There seems little left to attract patients even to the ERs now so poorly covered..... Indeed, the sell off of assets continues---the latest was the ambulance service "The state" and others have been helping Ralphie all along.country doctornoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-32053362.post-87247898009631268672013-10-07T12:11:13.744-04:002013-10-07T12:11:13.744-04:00Let's not forget that in addition to the multi...Let's not forget that in addition to the multi million dollar salaries for all of the Steward executives they have also sold off their lab, medical office buildings and hospitalist physicians for well over one hundred million dollars (probably all of this cash went to Cerberus in New York City). They have monetized the sellable assets at Steward which leaves the rest of the network which has little to no value and makes it that much less attractive to "the next fool". Who is going to line up to buy a system of old and empty hospitals needing huge facility upgrades? Patients with a Steward PCP spend 60% of their medical dollars outside of Steward... patients don't want to go to Steward when they need medical care. Frankly, I'll take MGH over Carney or Quincy any day of the week as well. Hard to feel badly for Ralph when he has made millions and extracted millions more in asset sales from the network he runs.... his hospital strategy did NOT work so now he goes and begs for help from the state? Pretty darn pathetic in my opinion.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-32053362.post-63333580815936249372013-10-07T10:50:56.741-04:002013-10-07T10:50:56.741-04:00I recall someone saying it would be "the next...I recall someone saying it would be "the next fool." In the meanwhile, under Caritas and now Steward, Ralphie and his cohorts have collected multi-dollar salaries to drive what remains of some formerly decent little hospitals into the ditch. One does not have to look too far back to remember the genesis of this whole deal to be open eyed regarding they way it has played out. One might say that Delatorre has some powerful and interesting friends----none of them staff or patients in the now crumbled Steward hospitals.Country Doctornoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-32053362.post-49542515222899524642013-10-07T10:36:50.973-04:002013-10-07T10:36:50.973-04:00I think you missed a major point: Steward is choo...I think you missed a major point: Steward is choosing to buy from those high-cost providers, in the face of many other low-cost, equal quality hospitals.

Also, they knew the overall setting when they bought the system from Caritas Christi.Paul Levyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17065446378970179507noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-32053362.post-30214092935915258472013-10-07T10:31:45.133-04:002013-10-07T10:31:45.133-04:00I think the point he was making is that price comp...I think the point he was making is that price competition has not yet placed any pressure on the highest-cost providers, which continue to see volumes on lower value (higher prices with similar outcomes).
