Twice a year, the sunset lines up with New York City's street grid -- making for spectacular views. Neil deGrasse Tyson, director of the Hayden Planetarium in New York, identified the cosmic event over a decade ago and coined it Manhattanhenge. Last weekend was the first Manhattanhenge of 2009 -- we watched the sun from 42nd street, along with about 50 other astronomical enthusiasts.

Nice! It reminds me of MIThenge, a similar thing that takes place in MIT's Infinite Corridor (next one is 11/11/09).

While I concede the novelty factor.. isnt it sort of sad that you cant see the sunset everyday?! That people are lined up to see an event that occurs everyday in infinite splendor, but is blocked by the ugliness of human-making?
The previous post makes sense. Sunset here in Manila is splendid.
