Congratulations, Jerry!
Bravo to Doctor Jerome Groopman (Chief of Experimental Medicine at BIDMC) for being awarded a Quill Award in the Health/Self-Improvement category for his book How Doctors Think.
(The picture has nothing to do with the book, but I really like it. It was sent to me by my sister, Sita Likuski, after she took it along the Alameda shoreline in California.)
I just finished this book. I trained in medicine in the 70's, and it is clear to me that Dr's are no longer trained to arrive at a diagnosis in the way that he describes as ideal. His experience with his hand problem was especially interesting. It even spoke to the point that Dr's no longer even give the extra courtesy to other M.D.'s that used to be par for the course. As both a doctor and a patient, I find the current state of American doctoring very sad. Especially sad that he has to write a book telling patients how to HELP their doctors think!!
It is a pretty picture. I believe it is a picture of pampas grass, a foreign weed that is a heavy duty threat in competition with native flora on the California coast. I have read that it has been spread not only by wind, but by people happily holding strands of it out the car window, like streamers, as they drive along California's Highway 1.
