This is National Respiratory Care Week, an opportunity to acknowledge and thank respiratory therapists throughout the country for their important contributions to patient care. Here at BIDMC, we have two broad groups of therapists, the adult RTs and the ones who take care of the new babies in our neonatal intensive care unit.
I have written before about the wonderful work that goes on in the NICU and also about the spectacular teamwork that has dramatically reduced the rate of ventilator associated pneumonia in our hospital. The respiratory therapists are at the center of those programs, and so much else. We appreciate what they do, and their kindness and expertise in taking care of patients and in helping patient families understand what is happening during what can often be distressing clinical episodes.
I had no idea about this--thanks for bringing it to our attention!
ReplyDeleteI am so fortunate to have amazing respiratory therapists who, on a daily basis, do so much for me and make such a difference in my quality of life. Their dedication and concern for patient health are truly incredible!
For those who have no insurance, who’s job does not offer insurance and are either no young or too old for medical (me) and has a lung problem, I ask that you remember the very few remaining free clinics in America and make a donation. Why? After I got out of the hospital that was cut short due to a lack of insurance I was unable to pay for my expensive medicines in order to recover quickly. I piled on another $2000+ in hospital bills that I have no way to pay and will fall to the state to help pay... If I was able to go to a free clinic or had medical the state would have only paid a fraction of the costs.
