I've been meaning to post this for a while, as an update to
the effort to solve our problem with distribution and maintenance of pumps. Here's the
latest video describing what was done. In discussions with the nurses, I am told that this has made a real difference in their day-to-day lives.
"The frontline staff have the best solutions to our problems."
ReplyDeleteNice work.
Thanks very much, Jerry. The more I see this kind of thing happening, the more I wonder why it is so unusual in most organizations. See, for example, Toyota versus GM. US auto manufacturers used to say, "That can only work in Japan," until Toyota opened up its US factories.
ReplyDeleteIt takes a real commitment to training and other aspects, but especially to the underlying philosophy you summarized so well. As I noted below in another post, it is a slow but rewarding transformation.
...the more I wonder why it is so unusual in most organizations.
ReplyDeleteIt's unusual because most organizations are run from the top down.
Who, at the top, is going to give up power/control, even as it applies to the minutae (sp?) of moment-to-moment operations?
That takes confidence.
