We don't think in ounces. We think in pounds.


The scene:  Our local Peet's Coffee shop.  At the request of friend who needs it for his St. Patrick's Day party tonight, I go to the counter and ask the young lady for 12 ounces of Major Dickason's Blend®.  She pleasantly and unhesitantly starts to fill the order.  The surly young man at her side says, "Next time you're here, please ask for 3/4 of a pound instead of 12 ounces.  We don't think in ounces here.  We think in pounds."

  3. LOL - I sure hope someone from corporate sees this, and educates him: "Ahem: We think in CUSTOMER terms. YOU may need some effort to convert ounces to pounds, but that's NOT the customer's problem - it's yours."

  6. Love the comment above about nickels! For what it's worth, Counter Culture and Intelligentsia offer amazing coffee sans attitude that I feel very good about buying online and locally in Boston. I'm afraid this small-minded, snarky Peet's employee just gave all of us yet another reason to avoid coffee chains. Thanks for the laugh this morning!

  7. This is REALLY something. We're really losing our ability to communicate face to face and civility has lost its meaning. I saw the first episode of Restaurant Stakeout last evening and it was a whole hour of this type thing. I'm going to eat out a lot less, I assure you.

  9. I frequent the very same Peet's and have nothing but excellent interactions with the staff. On more than one occasion I have received a voucher for free coffee when the service has been slow.
