Paul, I used to be a fan of your blog when you first started it. I feel though that is has become way too diluted with posts about topics of personal interest and too promotional of BIDMC. I would really like you to refocus on your original intent and go back to your early posts. "This is a blog started by a CEO of a large Boston hospital to share thoughts about hospitals, medicine, and health care issues." We don't need to hear about how you listen to the Red Sox games.
Sorry, David, I like to mix up the topics. I've always had items of personal interest and expect to keep doing so.
The topics about BIDMC are mainly not promotional -- although of course some are. They are an attempt to share interesting stuff going on here with other hospital folks and the general public. I get lots of comments from people around the world that this has been interesting and helpful to them.
Paul,
I am not sure you are committed to improving health care coverage. I know you are committed to the improvement of delivery of health care services, but I am not sure you understand the difference.
What is your take on this?

I don't know where you get that idea. I have said below that improving access is job one. I have been urging people to be more honest about its cost and dealing with it directly, rather than trying to reduce Medicare appropriations to providers. http://runningahospital.blogspot.com/2009/06/steps-towards-universal-health-coverage.html
So how do you have that other perception of my views? Can you cite something I said? I'm really curious.

Of course it's Paul's blog and he can use it as he sees fit. I, for one, would be interested in hearing more stories about the challenges of actually "running" a hospital. As a hospital-based doc, I always wondered what the adminstrators did all day.... (:)

Ah, but the title of the blog is actually a self-referential joke, because no one actually runs a hospital. As someone once said, being CEO of a hospital is more like being mayor of a city than being president of a regular company.
I'm not sure the day-to-day stuff about meetings and such would be very interesting, but I'll try. Check in tomorrow for a start.

Sorry, changed my mind. There are more interesting and important topics for the time being.
Paul, I just feel that its important to have a very specific focus with a forum such as this. You are in a very unique position in that you have an opportunity to call for change and reform in health care, and people will listen.
I guess I'm just disappointed to see the blog going in many different directions and having to sift through many different posts to find something of real value.
