Nice work, CGH

Congratulations to Tom Quinn, president and CEO of Community General Hospital in Syracuse, NY, for posting the results of their Joint Commission survey on September 28 -- and for the very respectable survey results!

Our survey is over today. I don't know if I am allowed to post anything about the results, I doubt I should considering I'm still a low man on the totem pole.

I will say that I 'heard' our Building and plant portion of our survey went perfect. When I say perfect, the guy found nothing at all to ding us for. Even the surveyor said that it was rare. I think this was a great testament to our Building services head, he's fantastic, and so is his team.

I always thought those surveyors "had" to find something.

On a somewhat tangential note, I found interesting his sept 15 post regarding inaccurate state reporting of the pneumonia mortality rate at his hospital. (They were including patients who had do not resuscitate orders; e.g. who were essentially allowed to die of the disease we call the "old man's friend.") That's one example of the pitfalls of mindless application of outcome statistics.

Thank you, Paul. You have set the standard for candor (and prolificacy!) in discussing the complex hospital world. Your kudo means a lot.
